England goes smoke free
From July 1st 2007, England goes smoking free. Smoking will be prohibited in public areas including community centres, work places, cinema, bars, clubs and restaurant.
There have been mixed feelings. Some people disagree, saying they have the right to smoke and are gutted while others are happy with the ban.
I support the legislation mainly because thousands of lives will be saved. Figures show that one in four Britons smokes cigarettes. I feel people who have been trying to quit smoking might benefit from this. The ban will protect many non-smokers from the effects of passive smoking. Of course it will be hard for smokers but its something that they will have to get over it.
Smokers will still be allowed to light up outdoors, in the home or places considered to be 'homes', care homes and in pubs which limit their food sales to snacks such as crisps, rather than prepared meals.
The other side i feel more children will be highly affected since some parents who used to smoke in the bars will now be smoking in front of their children at home.
